“This is our third year of the contest with the goal to create a greater awareness about our collective responsibility and take care of the Earth,” said Meridian Waste CEO Walter “Wally” Hall.  “Contest entries were up 44 percent since 2021. We had so many creative and artistic entries that we expanded the prizes to include a first, second, and third place in each age category.”

The contest has two age categories for children with specific coloring sheets for age groups from five to seven years and from eight to 10-years of age. The first-place winners will receive a custom garbage truck wall plaque, a tee shirt with their artwork printed on it, a $25 gift card, and a first-place rosette ribbon. Second and third place winners will receive a tee-shirt with their artwork printed on it, a $25 gift card, and a rosette ribbon.

Winners Ages Five to Seven:

  1. Mason Liller, Roanoke, Va.
  2. Sophia Chung, Carlsbad, Calif.
  3. Brooklyn Estrela, Raleigh, N.C.

Winners Ages Eight to 10:

  1. Brandon Earle, El Cajon, Calif.
  2. Freya Nesgari, St. Johns, Fla.
  3. Elijah Harris, Jacksonville, Fla.

“Meridian Waste invests in our planet from the daily work provided by our collection teams. They properly dispose of garbage, collect and sort recyclable materials in one of our materials recycling facilities, and through our gas-to-energy partnerships at the company’s landfills,” Hall said. “We also invest in supporting the communities we serve through public education about proper disposal methods. Meridian Waste hopes to ignite a spark of caring for the environment in young people through this contest.”

The efforts reinforce Meridian Waste’s commitment to supporting the simple joys of coloring while utilizing green efforts as the subject matter of the coloring sheets. For more information, visit https://www.MeridianWaste.com/Earthday.
