Lunenburg Landfill begins the installation of leachate tanks.

Leachate is the liquid that collects in landfills subsequent to rainfall and other liquids contained within the non-hazardous waste stream.  Per municipal solid waste landfill permits, leachate is required to be collect and treated prior to release back into the water stream or natural environment.  Liquid storage tanks, or leachate tanks, serve the purpose of safely storing this liquid prior to treatment.

The tanks are expected to be completed and operational by the end of May.
