Meridian Waste Donates $50,000 to Lunenburg County Community Organizations Five $10,000 Contributions Support Citizens of All Ages

Lunenburg, VA (April 14, 2025) – Meridian Waste Virginia LLC, a provider of non-hazardous solid waste collection and disposal services, is proud to announce a total donation of $50,000 to five community-based organizations and government entities in Lunenburg County, Virginia. Each recipient received a $10,000 contribution to support essential services benefiting residents from infancy through senior adulthood.

These contributions reflect Meridian Waste’s holistic approach to community well-being, recognizing that thriving communities depend on more than just clean streets—they also require access to food, healthcare, recreation, and safe gathering spaces.

The five donation recipients include:

Community Resource Services (CRS)
Founded in 2000, CRS is a nonprofit organization operating a food pantry and offering support services throughout Lunenburg, Nottoway, and surrounding counties. Their mission is to reduce hunger, improve health outcomes, and address the root causes of poverty and crime by providing equitable resources to rural communities.

Kenbridge Recreation Commission
Housed in the historic Kenbridge High School Gym, located at 535 E. 5th Avenue, the Kenbridge Recreation Center is a vital hub for sports, fitness, and community events. Built in 1950, the center continues to be a cornerstone of recreational life in the Town of Kenbridge.

Lunenburg Health Services, Inc.
A nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the overall health and well-being of Lunenburg residents, Lunenburg Health Services offers in-home nursing care, health education, and training programs. Its work focuses on expanding access to healthcare resources and improving community health outcomes.

Lunenburg Senior Citizens Center
Established in 1975, Lunenburg Senior Citizens, Inc. provides programs that promote the health, education, and general welfare of older adults in the county. Through active participation in local, state, and federal initiatives, the organization helps seniors live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Town of Victoria – Lunenburg-Victoria Community Center
Serving as both a food bank and community gathering space, the People's Community Center (1021 Tidewater Avenue) and the historic Victoria-Lunenburg Community Center (6th Street) are vital venues for civic engagement and recreational activities, from voting to roller skating.

“For a company focused on collecting and literally taking away waste from commercial, industrial, and residential customers, it’s incredibly rewarding to give back in such a meaningful way,” said Joe Gustaf, General Manager of Meridian Waste’s Lunenburg Landfill. “As a resident of the County, I’ve seen firsthand how community needs often exceed available public funding. Meridian Waste is proud to partner with the County—not only in meeting its environmental needs, but also in supporting hunger relief, healthcare access, and vibrant recreational facilities that enrich lives.”

In addition to its $50,000 in 2024 contributions, Meridian Waste is committing to increasing its annual community investment to $75,000 in fiscal year 2025. This expanded support underscores the company’s dedication to uplifting the communities it serves—both environmentally and socially.
