Meridian Waste and Lunenburg County Create First County-Wide Recycling Drop-Off Event

WHO: Meridian Waste Virginia, LLC, a subsidiary of Meridian Waste, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company and Lunenburg County.

WHAT: Meridian Waste and Lunenburg County are holding a county-wide Recycling Right event open to all residents.

WHEN: October 10, 2020. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE: Central High School - 131 K-V Rd, Victoria, VA 23974, Main parking Lot

WHY: Meridian Waste and Lunenburg County are committed to a cleaner and greener community. This Recycling Right Drop-Off event has been created to get the residents of Lunenburg County involved in recycling with this first drop-off event.

Residents are encouraged to separate their recycling into four streams before heading to the drop-off event. Social distancing guidelines will be followed and cars will be able to drive close to the drop-off containers for residents to unload their items. There will be prepackaged refreshments at the Meridian Waste information table. The four recycling streams are noted below.

Acceptable items for recycling:

  1. Plastics labeled #1 & #2 such as plastic bottles. Plastics must be clear and non-black;

  2. Steel and aluminum cans;

  3. Mixed papers: Office paper, junk mail, shopping receipts, newspapers;

  4. Clean, corrugated cardboard. Boxes must be broken down and tape removed.

All items must be rinsed clean and dried before drop-off. Soiled items, such as greasy pizza boxes, unrinsed soda pop cans, and waxy paper are not acceptable and will be rejected as they contaminate the recycling stream.

This event is sponsored by the Meridian Waste’s Lunenburg Landfill, located at 45 Landfill Rd., Lunenburg. The landfill has undergone significant improvements since Meridian Waste assumed management of the site.  The former unlined landfill has been closed per VA DEQ and federal EPA standards, new state-of-the-art disposal cells have been constructed and are now being utilized, a new scale house has been constructed and many aesthetic improvements have been made at the site.
