Meridian Waste North Carolina LLC is pleased to announce the company’s upcoming free community event to be held on Saturday, April 20 from 10 am until 2 pm at Shotwell Environmental Park, 4624 Smithfield Road in Wendell, NC. The newly themed event, The Greenest Show on Earth, invites neighbors and community members to learn about Earth Day, tour the disposal facility via hayrides, and enjoy a fun-filled day of free food, face painting, carnival-inspired inflatables, crafts, and family fun activities. Additionally, gardeners of all levels and expertise are invited to attend the Ask the Gardeners session about gardening, the best season to plant tomatoes, and how to utilize home-grown compost in flower and vegetables beds, among others. Rufus Edmisten and Mike Raley of the Weekend Gardener radio show will be in attendance from 12 pm until 1:30 pm to help participants with their gardening challenges.

“Shotwell Environmental Park has been building a strong reputation for inviting the community to visit our environmentally safe construction and demolition debris (C&D) facility through community events and programs. We invite citizens to better understand the work that we do every day to provide vital disposal operations for our growing region,” said Patrick Messinger, Meridian Waste’s Area President in North Carolina.  “With Easter being celebrated so early this year on March 31, we decided to change the annual Earth Day Easter Egg Hunt that we’ve held for the past two years into something different with a more direct focus on Earth Day,” said Messinger. “This year, we’re emphasizing how our solid waste industry benefits the natural environment with the work we do daily.  We are extremely excited to offer the new event for our neighbors, community, schools, non-profit organizations, customers, and partners.” For more information and to attend the event, visit the website at www.TinyURL.com/ShotwellEarthDay.
