Meridian Waste’s Shotwell Environmental Park Makes a Splash with More Than 400 Guests at 6th Annual Splash Bash

 Community celebration helps Wake County families beat the summer heat while connecting neighbors with the important environmental services provided at Shotwell Environmental Park

 

WENDELL, N.C. (August 17, 2026) — Meridian Waste’s Shotwell Environmental Park welcomed more than 400 community members on Saturday, August 15, for its 6th Annual Splash Bash, giving local children and their families a fun-filled way to cool down from temperatures topping 90 degrees before the start of the new Wake County school year.

The annual community celebration was all about water, sunshine and summertime fun, with activities designed to keep guests soaked and smiling. Children enjoyed a 15-foot water slide, slip-and-slides, water balloons and a two-hour foam bubble party that transformed a summer afternoon at the Environmental Park into one giant outdoor splash zone.  Guests were also treated to a free, all-American summer lunch featuring hot dogs, chips, fresh watermelon, lemonade and ice cream.

While Splash Bash is designed first and foremost to bring neighbors together for a day of family fun, the event also provides Meridian Waste an opportunity to welcome the public to Shotwell Environmental Park and introduce families to the essential environmental infrastructure serving the rapidly growing Triangle region.

Landfills and material recovery facilities (MRFs) are an important part of the landscape and infrastructure that keeps the Triangle’s economic engine humming. Through innovative waste-management solutions, recycling and material recovery, responsible disposal practices, regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship, facilities such as Shotwell Environmental Park help communities grow while protecting the natural resources that make North Carolina such a special place to live, work and play.
