Meridian Waste Celebrates Easter & Earth Day at Shotwell Environmental Park’s Annual Earth Day Easter Egg Hunt
Wendell, NC — April 9, 2026 — Meridian Waste North Carolina, LLC (“Meridian Waste”), an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, is proud to announce the resounding success of its annual Earth Day Easter Egg Hunt held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Shotwell Environmental Park. More than 630 guests attended the family-friendly community event which blended environmental education with festive fun for all ages.
Guests enjoyed a wide variety of activities throughout the day, including educational hayride tours of the C&D landfill and the Shotwell Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), where attendees learned how construction and demolition materials are recycled and repurposed. The event also featured a popular petting zoo with a pony, donkey, sheep, goats, rabbits, chickens, and even a pig—delighting children and adults alike.
Additional attractions included an inflatable slide and obstacle course, as well as an egg painting craft station that encouraged creativity and hands-on engagement. Meridian Waste also provided a complimentary lunch for all attendees, serving crowd-favorite chicken tenders.
The highlight of the day was the highly anticipated Easter Egg Hunt, where more than 2,000 eggs were scattered across the field and collected in an astonishing 1 minute and 30 seconds. The hunt was organized into three age groups to ensure a fun and fair experience for all participants. Each group also featured five hidden “Earth Eggs,” which awarded lucky finders with special prizes—adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
“We were thrilled to welcome so many families to Shotwell Environmental Park for this year’s Earth Day celebration,” said a Meridian Waste’s North Carolina (East) Area President, Patrick Messinger. “Events like these allow us to connect with our communities, showcase the important work happening at our facilities, and inspire the next generation to think sustainably—all while having a great time.”
Meridian Waste looks forward to continuing its community engagement efforts with the next event at Shotwell Environmental Park—the Summer Splash Bash, scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026. More details will be announced in the coming months.
