The 2025 VFW Golf Tournament has officially wrapped up—and thanks to dedicated supporters like Meridian Waste’s Raleigh team, the event was not only a hit on the green but a big win for veterans across the region.
Held with the dual purpose of fun and fundraising, this year’s tournament delivered both in full. Smiles were abundant, and early indicators show that the event successfully raised enough funds to support the VFW’s local missions through 2026.
The day was filled with small but impactful improvements that elevated the experience for players, including multiple refreshment stations, enhanced food and beverage offerings, and well-organized logistics by The Valley Golf Club staff—who battled back from heavy May rains to ensure the course was in top condition.
A major highlight was the growing army of volunteers and sponsors behind the scenes. Among them, Meridian Waste and its Raleigh team stood out, continuing their strong commitment to community involvement and veteran support. The team’s presence and participation underscore Meridian’s ongoing dedication to service beyond sanitation—building relationships, supporting nonprofits, and standing with those who served.
The powerful moment of the day came with Matt Lovette’s stirring rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, echoing across the fairways and setting the tone for a day full of camaraderie, competition, and patriotic spirit.
A group photo captured more than just smiling faces—it showcased a cross-section of America: veterans, professionals, families, city leaders, entrepreneurs, and a WWII veteran nearing his 100th birthday, still leading a company that supports fellow vets. That photo, like the event itself, was a true celebration of service, unity, and resilience.
As planning already begins for the 2026 tournament, participants and supporters like Meridian Waste prove that giving back can be both meaningful and memorable.
