Wendell, NC – August 17, 2025 – The Shotwell Environmental Park welcomed a vibrant crowd of over 300 community members on Saturday for its fifth annual Summer Splash Bash, a lively event aimed at showcasing the Park's essential role in the greater Triangle region's environmental efforts.
Neighbors, local non-profits, civic organizations, and community customers gathered for a day filled with family-friendly activities and education, all in the beautiful setting of Shotwell Environmental Park—a premiere construction and demolition debris (C&D) landfill and materials recovery facility (MRF). This unique event aimed to highlight how landfills can be both pretty and functional, promoting safe and environmentally responsible recycling and disposal practices.
The Summer Splash Bash featured an exciting lineup of activities that included introducing a brand new Foam Party, a thrilling 20-foot water slide, exhilarating slip and slides, an inflatable obstacle course and a hayride landfill tour. With fun field games and Meridian Waste's signature Touch-A-Truck lineup, there was no shortage of excitement for guests of all ages.
“We are thrilled with the community response and to show everyone that Shotwell Environmental Park is more than just a landfill,” said Patrick Messinger, Meridian Waste’s Area President – North Carolina. “Our facility is dedicated to promoting sustainability and demonstrating that environmentally responsible practices can be enjoyable and engaging for families.”
Attendees were treated to a complimentary lunch featuring hot dogs, chips, ice treats, lemonade, and delicious farm-fresh watermelon, making the day even sweeter. The event fostered connections among community members and emphasized the park's commitment to serving the greater Triangle region.
As we move forward, Shotwell Environmental Park looks to continue hosting events to engage the community and promote eco-friendly practices that lead to a better environment for all.
