Meridian Waste Shares Its Annual “Gifting of the Turkeys” with Neighbors Across Multiple States
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Meridian Waste, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, continued its annual tradition of giving back with its Gifting of the Turkeys program, delivering more than 150 Thanksgiving turkeys to households located near the company’s disposal facilities. The annual program recognizes residents who live near the company’s municipal solid waste and construction and demolition debris landfills to expresses gratitude for their support and understanding of the industrial nature of these
disposal facilities.
The Gifting of the Turkeys program is rooted in Meridian Waste’s commitment to being a responsible neighbor and active community partner. By providing holiday turkeys to families near its facilities, the company creates meaningful opportunities to connect, listen, and strengthen long-standing relationships.
“We believe in thanking the neighbors who live closest to our operations,” said Meridian Waste CEO Walter “Wally” Hall. “Their support allows us to fulfill our essential environmental mission. This program gives us a chance to open doors of communication, hear their questions or concerns, and show our appreciation in a simple but heartfelt way.”
Serving Communities From Missouri to North Carolina
Turkeys were hand-delivered by landfill management teams at Meridian Waste’s seven operating landfills across its multi-state footprint, including:
- Eagle Ridge Landfill – Bowling Green, Missouri
- Noble Hill Landfill – Attalla, Alabama
- Lunenburg Landfill – Lunenburg, Virginia
- Poplar View & Riverside Landfills – Knoxville, Tennessee
- Shotwell Environmental Park – Wendell, North Carolina
- Tri-Corners Landfill – Liberty, North Carolina
Residents greeted the program with enthusiasm, warm smiles, and even hugs — because few gifts are as welcome as a Thanksgiving turkey delivered with gratitude right before the holiday.
Landfills: Protecting the Environment Every Day
While often misunderstood, modern engineered landfills are among the most regulated and environmentally protective infrastructure in America. Meridian Waste’s facilities:
- Safeguard soil and groundwater through advanced liner and leachate collection systems
- Capture landfill gas for flaring or beneficial reuse
- Support recycling and recovery programs
- Provide responsible, long-term solutions that keep communities clean
- Preserve Mother Earth by ensuring waste is contained, managed, and monitored safely for generations
These operations play an essential role in protecting natural resources and maintaining public health — a mission Meridian Waste takes to heart.
A Message of Thanks
As the company reflects on the season of gratitude, Meridian Waste emphasizes what truly matters:
“In this season of thanks, we are reminded that what defines us isn’t what we dispose of — it’s what we hold onto,” said Hall. “We are grateful for our neighbors, community partners, and the many relationships that make our communities the treasures they are.”
Meridian Waste extends warm Thanksgiving wishes to all the families and communities it serves.
