Hooked on Fun: Tri-Corner Landfill’s Fishing Rodeo Reels in Big Smiles and Big Catches!
Alamance County, NC — May 19, 2025 — Who says landfills can’t be a splash of excitement? Meridian Waste North Carolina, LLC, an integrated, non-hazardous solid waste services company, proved otherwise with its second annual Fishing Rodeo, turning the Tri-Corners Landfill into a lively lake of laughter, competition, and community spirit. Over 400 neighbors, kids, and families cast their lines into the fun on Saturday, May 17th — and they didn’t leave empty-handed!
This isn’t your average fishing event. It’s a celebration of community, outdoor adventure, and giving back — all wrapped up in a day full of surprises, games, bounce houses, and even a mechanical bull! Kids competed for the title of the biggest and tiniest fish while also helping a great cause: supporting the E.M. Holt Elementary School’s Backpack Program, which ensures kids have food for the weekend without embarrassment or stigma.
And the winners are…
Age 8 & Under:
- Longest Fish: Jamie McKinney Guggio-Boyd with a 19.2-inch beauty!
- Smallest Fish: Vera Grace with a tiny 1.55-inch catch!
Ages 9-15:
- Longest Fish: Sophia Rice with a 13.15-inch whopper!
- Smallest Fish: Devin Campbell, reeling in a 4.25-inch prize!
Prizes Galore:
A handcrafted Meridian Waste fishing pole for the biggest catch, a shiny Meridian Waste model truck for the smallest, plus raffle prizes like bikes, a PlayStation 5, Yeti coolers, and stylish Meridian Waste hats. Every donation to the Backpack Program earned guests a raffle ticket — making every fish and every contribution a win for local kids in need.
Why it matters:
"Seeing the smiles on these young fisher girls & boys warms my heart,” said Josh Gustaf, Tri-Corner Landfill’s General Manager. “No matter the size of the fish, catching one just makes their day! And of course, catching the BIG one? That’s the real splash!”
Looking ahead, Meridian Waste is already planning its next big event: the a-MAZE-ing Pumpkin Patch this October! Expect a thrilling corn maze, inflatables, free lunch, Touch-A-Truck yard and hayride landfill tours — all for free! Stay tuned by following Meridian Waste on Facebook for updates and fall festivities.
Who knew landfills could be so fun? Come join the wave of community, conservation, and good old-fashioned fishing — because here at Tri-Corner Landfill, we’re making a big splash for a good cause!
