The following services, guidelines, and resource links are available specifically for Richland County, South Carolina.

Set Out Time: 7:00 AM

Carts must be placed curbside the night before or by 7:00 AM on your collection day to ensure service.

Containerized, nonhazardous municipal solid waste.

All waste materials must be BAGGED to limit trash spillage during collection and contained INSIDE your cart.

Every two weeks

Aluminum/steel/metal cans rinsed clean (no aluminum foil or pans), cardboard, corrugated flattened, and empty (no shipping or packing materials), newspapers, magazines, catalogs and unwanted mail (no shredded paper), plastic bottles, jugs, and tubs rinsed clean (look for the recycling arrows and numbers 1-7 only).

Yard Waste Pickup
Equivalent of up to two (2) loose roll carts or six 30-gallon bags.
Must be in ONE pile, maximum size of 6 ft. long by 3 ft. wide by 2 ft. high.
Weekly
Grass clippings, leaves, pine straw, sticks or small limbs (max 4-feet long, 4-inches round), brush or clippings from routine residential landscaping.

Within 6 feet of the curb (NOT in the street, storm drain, or drainage ditch) AND at least 3 feet away from carts, cars, mailboxes, and other obstacles.

No mulch, dirt or rocks, stumps, roots, shrubbery, tree removal debris, miscellaneous debris, household garbage, bulk items, excess debris beyond normal weekly/monthly yard maintenance.
Bulk Waste Pickup
By appointment only and free for eligible Richland County residents.
Furniture, mattresses, hot water heaters, push mowers (no gas or oil), metal grills (no propane tanks), large appliances (door removed).

To determine whether an item qualifies for bulk collection or to make an appointment for collection, complete a Service Request through our Solid Waste App or by calling 803-576-2440.

Do not place items curbside until you receive a confirmation call or email with your scheduled appointment.  Place only the scheduled items at the curb by 7 a.m. on your appointment day.  Leave at least 6 feet of space from roll carts, mailboxes and other obstacles.

Electronics, sporting equipment, medical equipment, exterior structures (fencing, sheds), construction and demolition (C&D) debris.
Explosion Danger!

Lithium-ion batteries (the kind in cell phones, laptops, tablets) easily catch fire or explode when crushed, even if they're “dead”!

NEVER put them in the Garbage OR Recycling.

Cart Placement

Richland County provides one (1) garbage cart and one (1) recycling cart when service begins. One additional cart of each type may be requested for an additional fee. They belong to the County, but you’re responsible for keeping them in good shape.

Each cart is assigned to your address. Do not take it if you move or transport it elsewhere.

Close cart lid, point handle away from street, place on edge of street. Keep cart 5 feet away from all objects.
