Accounting Assistant

Location: Petersburg, Virginia

Job Title: Accounting Assistant  
Reports To:  Area Controller 

 Summary:   

The Accounting Assistant works closely with the Accounts Payable Managerand Area Controller assisting with administrative tasks within the accounting department.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Assist with different accounting functional areas (invoice processing, expense tracking, purchase order logs, etc.) 

  • Attach scanned copies of vendor invoices within the accounting system 

  • Deposit cash/checks received on-site to the bank multiple times per week 

  • Maintain filing systems within the accounting department 

  • Help ensure that all internal and external reporting deadlines are met  

  • Utilize accounting IT system to facilitate processes and maintain records 

  • Provide necessary support to financial audits including internal audits, external audits and peer reviews as needed 

  • Provide support and help respond to information requests from Corporate (accounting, tax, treasury, IT, HR, sales, environmental compliance, legal, etc.) as well as region and area field financial management as required  

  • Assist Virginia branch personnel as required to answer questions concerning vendor inquiries 

  • Respond to internal and external inquiries related to Accounts Payable 

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent 

  • Prepare ad hoc reports as needed 

  • Follow and comply with all safety policies 

  • Additional duties as assigned  

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/ and or Experience: 

  • High School diploma required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred 

  • Minimum 1-3 years of related experience. 

  • Intacct experience preferred. 

  • Highly proficient in all Microsoft Office programs.   

  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and personal interaction skills required.   

  • Very strong organizational skills required.
