Manager of Accounts Payable

Job Title: Manager of Accounts Payable- Corporate

Reports To: Corporate Controller


Summary: The Manager of Accounts Payable is responsible for providing accurate financial statements and accounting services for Meridian Waste by preparing and maintaining financial records related to Accounts payable as required in compliance with all federal, state, local and professional requirements.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manages AP. Includes, Customer Vendor Relations, and the AP disbursement group which handles all check disbursements, 1099 and tax related matters for corporate office.

Manages accounting functions including maintenance of general ledger and accounts payable to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

Develops, implements and maintains systems, procedures and policies, including accounts payable functions to ensure adherence to company guidelines.

Manage the integration of upgrades to the ERP system, as it relates to accounts payable and cash applications, to ensure smooth transition. (PO system, T&E reporting software, ERP to bank integration, P-Card integration)

Work closely with field teams on all matters surrounding the accounts payable process.

Manages the company’s travel and expense policy and adherence to the policies and procedures in place to ensure that employee reimbursed comply with established rules.

Manages monthly closing of financial records and posting of month end information; ensures accuracy of financial statements.

Administer all company disbursements on a weekly basis and maintain proper records of support.

Provides accounting assistance to field teams and operations staff; responds to financial questions/concerns to meet business needs.

Acts as a liaison between the company, government and external accountants to meet information needs and to ensure that proper information is maintained for historical purposes.

Work with bank to identify areas of improvement for expense structure and areas of potential cost savings.

Monitors spending for adherence to budget, recommends variances as necessary.

Prepare ad hoc reports as needed.

Follow and comply with all safety policies.

Additional duties as assigned.

Education/ and or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting and/or equivalent training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Seven or more years of accounting experience

Experience working with generally accepted accounting principles and accounting software

Must have large ERP AP system experience, as well as 1099 filing experience

Strong personal computer and business solutions software skills

Strong interpersonal skills for interacting accountants, clients, and upper management

Good communication skills for communicating with support personnel and management

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Good presentation skills for educating internal clients on accounting principles

Good planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work

Sage Intacct (ERP) experience preferred.


Specialized Knowledge Required Including any required certificates, licenses, and registrations 

Working knowledge of all major Finance disciplines.

Must be able to multi-task and have an attention to detail.

Must demonstrate strong organization and project management skills.

Must have the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Excellent communication and listening skills.

Great attention to detail.

Proficient with Microsoft Office.
